Zoonotic disease detected in animals imported from Georgia to Azerbaijan

A zoonotic disease has been detected in four animals brought from Georgia to Azerbaijan.
The information was announced by the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AQTA).
According to the agency, on May 5 a total of 89 head of slaughter cattle planned for import by Aqrovest MT LLC from Georgia’s Universal Export company underwent clinical and laboratory examinations.
During control measures, signs raising suspicion of zoonotic diseases were detected in four animals. The animals showed high fever, weakened general condition, and persistent balance disorders.
Considering the existing risks, permission was not granted for the animals to enter the country and they were returned to the country of origin.
An official appeal has also been sent to the relevant Georgian authority in order to prevent a recurrence of such cases.
