US Signals Military Option in Push to Acquire Greenland

The White House has stated that the United States is considering multiple ways to acquire Greenland, including the possible use of military force, describing it as an option always available to the president. Officials argue that control of Greenland is a strategic priority tied to national security and the growing importance of the Arctic region.
“The Daily Baku” reports that, these remarks have triggered a strong backlash from European leaders. France, Germany, the UK and other allies joined Denmark in a joint statement insisting that Greenland’s future can only be decided by Denmark and Greenland itself. They stressed that respect for sovereignty is fundamental to Nato, which includes both the US and Greenland.
Greenland and Denmark have requested urgent talks with Washington to challenge what they describe as exaggerated claims about Chinese and Russian influence around the island. Danish officials rejected assertions that Greenland is heavily exposed to foreign military or economic pressure, noting that Denmark has already invested billions to strengthen Arctic security.
Although Trump has renewed calls for a US takeover, both Greenland’s government and public opinion in the US oppose the idea. While some Republicans have downplayed the likelihood of military action, Democrats warn that such threats undermine international law and alliance unity.
