Updated edition of “Children of a Shared Culture – Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan” published with AIR Center support

The updated edition of the book “Children of a Shared Culture – Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan” has been published with the initiative and support of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center).

According to The Daily Baku, Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the AIR Center and author of the foreword, noted that preserving historical, cultural and literary ties with communities living beyond Azerbaijan’s borders and considering themselves part of the Azerbaijani cultural sphere, as well as strengthening these connections, is an important component of the foreign policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Today, the high level of relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Iraq creates broad opportunities for the development of cultural and literary ties between the peoples of the two countries, particularly with the Turkmen community,” he said.

The study broadly reflects the history, demography, areas of settlement, socio economic life, daily life and traditions of Iraqi Turkmens, their role in the history of Iraq, prominent figures, as well as the historical ties between Azerbaijanis and Iraqi Turkmens.

The project is led by Kenan Rovshanoglu, a representative of the Eurasian International Development Association.

The research was prepared through joint cooperation between scholars and experts from Azerbaijan and Iraq. The authors of the book include Mahmoud Khalil Jafar, Jafar Talafary, Ismail Aslanoglu, Rza Alioglu, Naznaz Tawfiq, Hussam Dawud Hizir Erbilli, Burhan Saleh and Choban Hydir Uluhan from Iraq, and Natiq Rahimov, Laman Suleymanova, Aynur Jalilova, Mehsati Suleymanova, Kenan Rovshanoglu, Rizvan Mammadsoy and Orkhan Isayev from Azerbaijan.

The book is intended for researchers in the field, journalists and a wide readership interested in the Turkmen community.
