UN-HABITAT: Around 3 billion people worldwide lack adequate housing today

The 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), which will be held in Baku, is of significant importance in the current global context.
“The Daily Baku” reports that this was stated by Edlam Yemeru, Director for External Relations, Strategy, Knowledge and Innovation at the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), during a press conference dedicated to the preparations for WUF13.
According to him, UN-HABITAT highly values its partnership with Azerbaijan: “The World Urban Forum is truly global and extremely inclusive. It has become the world’s leading conference on urban development and housing.”
The guest noted that WUF13 is a very important event: “The year 2026 is particularly important for global urban development. First, the global housing crisis has now reached a critical level of urgency. Today, around 3 billion people worldwide lack adequate housing, and 1.1 billion people live in slums and informal settlements under extremely difficult conditions. So you can imagine the scale of the crisis. This is precisely the issue that the Forum will highlight.”
