Turkish expert Mehmet Emir Aksoy: Azerbaijan is reshaping regional balances

In recent times, the intensive diplomacy pursued by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan should not be regarded merely as the management of temporary crises or as periodic contacts. This process is part of Baku’s strategy to transform its Caucasus-centered geopolitical position into a sustainable and multidimensional diplomatic bridge between Asia and Europe, Turkish expert and international relations specialist Mehmet Emir Aksoy told The Daily Baku.

According to the expert, the Azerbaijani leadership has already gone beyond classical diplomatic reflexes and is pursuing a policy based on the principle of “simultaneous engagement – simultaneous balance.” Negotiations conducted in parallel with Moscow, Ankara, Tehran, Brussels and the capitals of Central Asia demonstrate that Azerbaijan is not only a regional player, but also a rational state capable of creating balance among different centers of power.

Mehmet Emir Aksoy emphasized that this diplomatic activity is not passive mediation, but an indicator of a guiding and proactive policy. In his view, Azerbaijan’s diplomatic course has been systematically aligned with its military potential.

The expert noted that the reality that emerged after the 2020 Patriotic War proved that Azerbaijan was the winning side not only on the battlefield, but also at the diplomatic table.

According to him, the modernization of the Azerbaijani Army, the expansion of its technological capabilities, and its professional structure play the role of a silent yet effective balancing factor in the background of diplomatic processes. This factor enables Azerbaijan to become a reliable stabilizing actor not only in the South Caucasus, but also in the Caspian basin and Central Asia.

The expert stressed that Azerbaijan, located at the center of energy, logistics and transport routes stretching from Asia to Europe, is now reinforcing this strategic position not only through geography, but also through well-thought-out diplomacy and strong military potential. The diplomacy recently conducted by President Ilham Aliyev is a concrete manifestation of a single, coherent state strategy.
