Transport Operations Center established for WUF13 in Baku

A Transport Operations Center has been established at the Intelligent Transport Management Center under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs in connection with the 13th session of the World Urban Forum 13, which will be held in Baku on May 17–22.
The announcement was made by the head of the center, Namidan Piriyev, during a briefing on the transport management plan for the event.
According to him, the main goal is to ensure оперативe management of transport operations and coordinated action with other agencies. Representatives of various state bodies will work at the center on a daily basis to enable rapid response, real-time information exchange, and coordinated decision-making in case of any incidents.
Piriyev noted that “Green Corridor” and “Green Wave” principles will be applied during WUF13. These measures aim to ensure smooth and uninterrupted movement for both event participants and the general public. Escort convoys and buses transporting guests will benefit from priority movement through synchronized traffic signals along designated routes.
He emphasized that entering designated “green lanes” will be considered a violation. Strict control will be exercised over bus lanes introduced under this system, and appropriate measures will be taken against violators.
No full road closures are planned across the city. However, temporary changes in traffic directions may occur on certain streets and avenues, particularly on May 18, the opening day, due to enhanced security measures. These adjustments will be short-term and limited in scope.
Piriyev also clarified that no restrictions such as checkpoints or limitations on entry into Baku from regions are planned. Only on the opening day, vehicles entering from the southern part of the capital, particularly the area known as “Lokbatan Circle,” may be temporarily redirected to the outer ring road. This measure will not involve stopping vehicles but simply redirecting traffic flow if necessary.
