Tokyo airport experiences traffic control glitch, flights delayed

Haneda airport in Tokyo suffered a glitch in its air traffic control system on Tuesday morning, causing flight delays and cancelations, the transport ministry said.

The trouble, which occurred at around 7:15 a.m. (GMT+9), appears to have prevented transmissions of Haneda's flight plans to other airports in the country, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said.

Although the system was restored some 15 minutes later, the trouble disrupted schedules of many flights at Haneda and other airports.

All Nippon Airways had canceled 30 domestic flights, mainly those to and from Haneda, and Japan Airlines 53 flights as of 10 a.m. (GMT+9). The cancelations affected around 14,000 people, according to the airlines.
