The Panama Canal has seen a surge in shipping traffic due to the Middle East war

The Panama Canal expects a further increase in vessel transits amid the military conflict in the Middle East.
This was stated by Victor Vial, Chief Financial Officer of the Panama Canal Authority.
According to him, the escalating situation in the region, including the war between the US and Iran, has already impacted shipping routes. In particular, an increase in vessels carrying liquefied natural gas has begun to transit the canal.
"This trend is expected to continue until the situation in the Middle East is resolved," Vial noted.
The Panama Canal Authority reported that since October of the current fiscal year, the number of vessel transits has increased by approximately 300 compared to the same period last year.
The Panama Canal is one of the world's key shipping corridors, connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Amid instability in strategically important regions, some ship owners and operators are reconsidering shipping routes, increasing the burden on alternative logistics routes.
