The number of drug crimes in Azerbaijan decreased by 12.4% last year

Of the 31,852 crimes registered in the country last year, 7,763 or 24.4 percent were related to the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, which is 12.4 percent less than the previous year.
This was reported by the State Statistics Committee.
It was reported that 63.5 percent of these crimes were the illegal acquisition, storage, preparation, processing, transportation of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in quantities exceeding the amount for personal consumption without the purpose of sale, 33.3 percent were the same actions for the purpose of sale, as well as the production, shipment or illegal sale of these substances, 2.4 percent were the illegal cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances, and 0.8 percent were crimes related to the illegal trafficking of potent or toxic substances for the purpose of sale.
During the reporting period, 5,657 persons were identified who committed crimes related to the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
35.8 percent of them were persons who had previously committed crimes, which is 23.1 percent less than the previous year. 98.4 percent of those who committed crimes were brought to criminal responsibility, and 1.6 percent were exempted from criminal responsibility in accordance with the legislation.
60.9 percent of those who committed crimes were of working age, not working or not studying, and 3.0 percent were women. 0.3 percent of the perpetrators were minors aged 14-17, 6.5 percent were 18-24, 14.6 percent were young people aged 25-29, and 78.6 percent were 30 and older.
In addition, 3,051 administrative offenses related to the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were registered in 2025, of which 88 were committed by women.
In 2025, 11,539.1 kilograms of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, precursors and plants containing narcotic substances were confiscated and seized, an increase of 23.7 percent compared to the previous year. Of the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances withdrawn from illegal circulation, 7,606.7 kilograms were marijuana, 2,672.9 kilograms were plants containing narcotic substances growing in the country, 773.7 kilograms were heroin, 142.2 kilograms were opium, 161.8 kilograms were hashish, hashish oil and tar, 162.7 kilograms were psychotropic substances (of which 162.6 kilograms were methamphetamine), and 19.1 kilograms were other narcotics and strong-acting substances.
