US President Donald Trump has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The ultimatum expires at 4:00 AM Baku time on March 24, 2026. President Trump stated that if the condition is not met within the specified time, the United States will strike Iran’s power plants.
Iran has rejected the ultimatum and warned that if its power plants are attacked, it will retaliate by targeting power plants in Gulf countries as well as seawater desalination facilities. In this case, the involvement of Gulf countries in the war appears inevitable.
At the same time, reports indicate that the United States is finalizing preparations to seize Kharg Island, where Iran’s main oil export terminal is located.
A few hours ago, the United States began heavy bombardment of Iran. It is unclear whether this attack is related to the ultimatum.
It appears that if no agreement is reached within the next 24 hours, a sharp escalation will begin in the region.
