Thailand and Cambodia signed a joint statement resuming the ceasefire along the border between the two countries after 20 days of intense fighting, The Daily Baku reports, citing the state television channel Thai PBS.
"Thai Defense Minister Natthaphon Nakphanit and Cambodian Defense Minister Thea Seikha signed a joint statement resuming the ceasefire effective December 27," the channel reported from the scene.
It was reported yesterday that the Thai and Cambodian authorities had agreed on the terms of a temporary ceasefire, which will take effect tomorrow. The initial ceasefire is to last 72 hours. A subsequent agreement to extend the ceasefire must be approved by Thailand's National Security Council.
Clashes between Thailand and Cambodia resumed on December 8. A few days later, US President Donald Trump announced that the parties had agreed to cease hostilities and return to the peace agreement signed in October. On December 24, the parties began negotiations on resuming the ceasefire.
