The Azerbaijan Institute of Standardization (AZSTAND), subordinate to the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control under the President, has adopted a new state standard for the jewelry industry AZS EN 12472:2026 "Method of simulation of accelerated wear and corrosion for the detection of nickel release from coated products."
The adoption of the standard serves to ensure the application of internationally accepted test methods for determining the amount of nickel in contact with human skin of jewelry products, thereby assessing the potential for preventing the negative impact of nickel on health, protecting consumer health, as well as assessing the compliance of jewelry and other metal products presented on the market with safety requirements.
The draft of the new state standard was adopted on the basis of the presentation of the Technical Committee on Standardization "Precious Metals and Precious Stones" (AZSTAND/TK 36) established under the "Center for Expertise of Consumer Goods" LLC subordinate to the State Agency and included in the State Fund of Normative Documents on Standardization.
The adopted document was developed based on the European standard EN 12472:2020 "Method for the simulation of accelerated wear and corrosion for the detection of nickel release from coated items".
