Speed limit on toll highways in Azerbaijan set at 130 km per hour

The maximum speed limit on toll highways in Azerbaijan has been set at 130 km per hour.
President Ilham Aliyev signed the relevant amendments to the law “On Road Traffic”.
The amendments clarify the definition of a “motorway”. It is now defined as a road with a special traffic regime, marked by signs 5.1 and 5.2. Such roads have separated carriageways for different directions and do not intersect with other roads, railway or tram lines, bicycle paths, or pedestrian zones. They must also be equipped with rest and parking areas at intervals of no more than 50 km.
In addition, speed limits on toll motorways outside populated areas have been revised.
For passenger cars and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tonnes, the maximum speed is set at 130 km per hour.
For buses, vehicles with trailers, and trucks exceeding 3.5 tonnes, the limit is 90 km per hour.
The amendments also introduce new rules for returning impounded vehicles. A vehicle is returned to its owner immediately after payment of towing and storage costs, with the fee determined by the authorized body.
If a vehicle is detained unlawfully or damaged during storage, the owner may challenge this through administrative procedures or in court.
Storage fees begin to accrue from midnight of the day following the vehicle’s delivery to the impound lot. If the administrative case is terminated or the fine is отменен, the paid towing and storage costs are refunded to the owner.
