Slovenia considers holding a referendum on withdrawing from NATO

The newly elected Speaker of Slovenia’s National Assembly (the lower house of parliament), leader of the “Resni.ca” party, Zoran Stevanović, plans to hold a referendum on the country’s withdrawal from NATO.
He made this statement to Radio and Television Slovenia.
“I must say that we promised the people a referendum on the issue of withdrawing from NATO, and we will indeed hold this referendum,” the parliamentary speaker emphasized.
According to him, Ljubljana should pursue an independent and sovereign policy, while cooperating with all countries and keeping national interests as a priority. “We will strongly oppose involvement in foreign military and diplomatic conflicts, because Slovenia never benefits from this,” Stevanović added.
