Sabina Aliyeva spoke about the humanitarian consequences of the occupation for Azerbaijan.

The Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan, Sabina Aliyeva, stated that a number of historical events in the region have led to serious humanitarian consequences for the country.
She made this statement at a conference dedicated to World Book and Copyright Day, Report informs. The event focused on exposing Armenian falsifications in ancient texts and classical sources.
Aliyeva emphasized that historical and cultural heritage forms the foundation of every nation’s identity. “Throughout history, due to events that took place in the region, Azerbaijan has faced serious humanitarian tragedies, and the fundamental rights of thousands of people have been violated. During the period of occupation, significant damage was inflicted on the country’s cultural and religious heritage monuments,” she said.
According to the Ombudsman, what happened raises serious concerns also from the perspective of protecting universal human values.
Aliyeva noted that large-scale reconstruction work is being carried out in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan. However, mines and unexploded ordnance still hinder the safe return of residents and the sustainable development of the region. “We have repeatedly informed international organizations about acts of vandalism committed against Islamic cultural sites. It has been emphasized that such actions should be regarded as moral terror,” she stated.
The Ombudsman also pointed out that the scientific assessment of these processes and the transmission of cultural heritage to future generations is a universal task: “It is important to ensure objectivity, a scientific approach, and adherence to the principles of international law in protecting intellectual property rights.”
