Reason for generators not activating during Baku metro incident revealed

The failure of generators to operate during today’s incident in the Baku Metro was due to the location of the event inside a tunnel, making the use of diesel generators impossible.

According to “The Daily Baku”, this was stated by Bakhtiyar Mammadov, spokesperson for “Baku Metro” CJSC, in a comment to journalists.

He noted that the cause of the incident was a technical malfunction: “Since the incident occurred in the tunnel of the Baku Metro, specifically in an intermediate cable, it was not possible to use diesel generators as a backup power source. However, in accordance with Baku Metro regulations, the evacuation of passengers was fully completed without any incidents.”
