Presentation of the book "Flora of Karabakh" was held

On December 23, the Central Scientific Library of ANAS hosted a presentation ceremony of the book "Flora of Karabakh", dedicated to the glorious Victory by the Institute of Botany of the Ministry of Science and Education.
"The Daily Baku" reports that the author and editor of the book is the Director General of the Institute of Botany, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva.
The publication states that an objective map of the flora of Karabakh and East Zangezur territories for all periods has been created based on scientific classification.
Head of ANAS Isa Habibbeyli noted that scientists of the Department of Biology and Medical Sciences have carefully studied and seriously studied rare plant species and animal kingdoms in the country in order to prepare the "Red Book" of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Isa Habibbeyli said that the publication, which was created as a result of the trips, expeditions and ethnobotanical research of our botanists to Karabakh, studied rare, endemic, medicinal plants, mosses and algae samples distributed in that region, and studied their bioecological characteristics and geography of distribution in detail.
He said that the book collected valuable scientific information about more than 2,000 higher plants, more than 400 species of fungi, as well as 91 species of rare plants belonging to Karabakh. It was noted that this work creates a clear scientific idea about the rich flora of Karabakh, mainly medicinal plants, rare and endemic species, and each aspect of the book deserves to be the subject of special research.
Then, the Chairman of the Committee on Natural Resources, Energy and Ecology of the Milli Majlis, Sadiq Gurbanov, said that in his book "Tibbinama" written in the 18th century, Mahammad Yusif Shirvani talked about the botanical composition of the vegetation growing in the lands of Karabakh and its positive impact on folk medicine. The chairman of the committee emphasized that Karabakh has healing water resources, clean climate, fertile, productive soils, rich flora, biodiversity and ecosystem.
Speaking later, ANAS Vice-President Academician Irada Huseynova said that the book includes 8 maps, 10 tables, illustrations of 300 relict and endemic plants, including 91 species of rare plants. The work also reflects the botanical characteristics of higher plants, mosses and lichens.
The vice-president emphasized that the nature of Karabakh and the East Zangezur region is not only the national wealth of the country, but also has strategic importance in terms of the ecological sustainability of the Caucasus. He noted the importance of the new publication in terms of the application of Karabakh flora and the transfer of natural heritage to future generations.
The author and editor of the publication, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Sayyara Ibadullayeva, Director General of the Institute of Botany, said that for the first time since the establishment of the Institute of Botany, such a book about the flora of Karabakh has been published in Azerbaijan. The book, consisting of 900 pages in total, contains the results of scientific research conducted by the leadership and employees of the Institute of Botany on the basis of the rich flora of the Karabakh territory after the glorious Victory.
