Pope Leo XIV: I do not want to engage in polemics with Donald Trump

Pope Leo XIV has said that despite criticism from US President Donald Trump, he will continue to speak out against the war in the Middle East.
He made the remarks aboard the papal plane en route to Algeria.
"I do not want to enter into a debate with him (Donald Trump – ed.). I will continue to speak out loudly against war by promoting peace, dialogue, and multilateral relations among states in order to find just solutions to problems," he said.
The Pope emphasized that an excessive number of civilians have been killed as a result of military operations.
"A large number of people in the world are suffering, many innocent people are dying. I believe that someone must stand up and say that there is another – better – way," he noted.
It should be noted that earlier US President Donald Trump had criticized Pope Leo XIV. According to Trump, the Pope is weak in fighting crime and ineffective in foreign policy. Trump also said that he prefers the Pope’s brother Luigi, as, according to him, he fully supports “MAGA” (Make America Great Again – ed.). In addition, Trump stated that he does not want to see a Pope leading the Roman Catholic Church who considers it normal for Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
