Pedro Sánchez: China is the only country capable of ending the conflict in the Middle East

Chinese President Xi Jinping подчеркнул важность укрепления сотрудничества между Китаем и Испанией в области энергетики, экономики, науки и культуры.
According to Xinhua, Xi made the remarks during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who arrived in Beijing on an official visit.
“China and Spain should seize emerging opportunities and strive for innovative development,” Xi Jinping said.
He added that the world has been thrown into turmoil due to the conflict in the Middle East and assured that China would contribute to its resolution.
“The international order is collapsing,” the Chinese leader said.
For his part, Sánchez described Beijing as the only global actor capable of helping de-escalate the Middle East conflict.
“I find it extremely difficult to identify other mediators besides China who could help resolve the situation around Iran and the Strait of Hormuz,” Sánchez said, calling on Beijing to play a more active diplomatic role.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on several cities. On the same day, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes.
In response, Iran carried out missile strikes on Israeli territory and attacked U.S. military bases in Gulf countries.
Iran, the United States, and their allies reached a two-week ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026.
On April 11–12, talks between Iran and the United States were held in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as mediator.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that on April 13 at 10:00 a.m. EDT (18:00 Baku time), the United States began blocking Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
