Next phase of the “Livable Baku” project discussed with the World Bank

Preparations for the next stages of the “Livable Baku” project were discussed between the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan and the World Bank.
According to the information, Deputy Minister Himalay Mammadov held a meeting with identification missions of the World Bank currently visiting the country for the “Competitive and Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Services” (CRAIS) and “Livable Baku” projects. The meeting covered the World Bank’s support for the development of Azerbaijan’s agriculture and food sector, the preparation and implementation of the CRAIS project, as well as preparations for the next stages of the “Livable Baku” initiative.
Mammadov noted that the long term cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Bank has made a significant contribution to the country’s socio economic development. He shared views on the modernization of agriculture and irrigation infrastructure, as well as ongoing work in urban development. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the CRAIS project, aimed at ensuring sustainable agricultural development and modernizing irrigation infrastructure, will be implemented based on a fiscal framework, investment priorities, and a phased approach.
It was also highlighted that within the framework of the “Livable Baku” project, measures to improve urban infrastructure, enhance environmental balance, and increase the quality of public services will be carried out in a comprehensive and phased manner.
For his part, Holger Kray, Regional Manager for Agriculture and Food for Europe and Central Asia at the World Bank, stated that the partnership between the World Bank and Azerbaijan is at a high level. He noted that the projects play an important role in supporting sustainable development in Azerbaijan’s agriculture and urban planning sectors, emphasizing the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and applying a results oriented approach.
During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on expanding cooperation, improving implementation mechanisms of ongoing projects, and defining priority areas for the next stages.
