MP: Azerbaijan has demonstrated its commitment to peace not with words, but with real actions

The large scale meeting held in Abu Dhabi between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia was the second meeting of this kind, and it is already possible to say that this format has produced certain results.

These remarks were made by Member of Parliament Javanshir Feyziyev in a statement to The Daily Baku.

He noted that in order to comprehensively assess the topic, it is appropriate to recall the outcomes of the meeting held in the same format in July last year.

“After that meeting, serious progress was observed in the peace process, and the initialing of the Peace Agreement in Washington with the participation of the President of the United States is a clear example of this.”

Javanshir Feyziyev emphasized that for the first time during the period of independence, the export of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia has begun. At the same time, a route has been opened for the transit of cargo sent from third countries to Armenia through the territory of Azerbaijan. In addition, four prisoners convicted and serving sentences in Azerbaijan were handed over to the Armenian side.

According to the MP, all these steps are goodwill measures taken by Azerbaijan. It is precisely through these actions that Azerbaijan has clearly demonstrated its commitment to the peace process. In his view, these developments following the previous meeting have created high expectations and hopes regarding the outcomes of the most recent meeting held in Abu Dhabi.

Javanshir Feyziyev stated that, as noted in official statements, the large scale meeting in Abu Dhabi discussed work related to the Zangezur corridor, the revitalization of trade and economic relations, as well as the establishment of communication and contacts between the civil societies of both countries. The MP added that it cannot be ruled out that the range of discussed topics also included issues that have not yet been disclosed to the public.

According to him, the real results of all these negotiations will be seen in practical steps to be taken during the current year. Javanshir Feyziyev confidently stated that intensifying such meetings is the most favorable and realistic path to achieving all the set objectives, including the signing of a Peace Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the near future.
