Police in Azerbaijan have seized more than 49 kilograms of наркотics during an operation carried out by the Interior Ministry, officials say.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, officers from the Main Anti Narcotics Department detained two suspects during the operation. A 35 year old man was found with 34.8 kilograms of drugs, while a previously convicted 29 year old suspect was found in possession of 14.7 kilograms of marijuana mixed with harmful substances.

Investigators say the drugs were intended for sale.

Criminal cases have been opened and both suspects have been placed in pre trial detention following a court ruling.
