Matthew Bryza: Azerbaijan and Armenia are pretty close to a peace treaty - EXCLUSIVE

It is a great thing that President Trump has personally stepped in to give new impetus to the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, former diplomat Matthew Bryza told The Daily Baku.
“I always thought that we weren't going to get to a final framework agreement on a future peace treaty unless or until the U.S. president was personally involved. After the Key West experience, which led to, I think, an outcome that ultimately President Haidar Aliyev decided wasn't something he wanted, it wasn't possible to get the U.S. president as actively engaged again as President George W. Bush was until President Donald Trump. To be honest, at the beginning of the Trump administration, even before he was inaugurated, I was talking to one of his White House advisors on foreign policy and saying, this would be a great conflict on which President Trump could get personally involved because the two parties are pretty close to a peace treaty," Bryza stressed.
He noted that whether changes to the Armenian constitution will take place depends largely on Armenia's internal political processes.
