Kallas: Talks with Iran should include nuclear experts

Negotiations with Iran should be conducted with the participation of nuclear experts, otherwise there is a risk of further deterioration of the situation.
This was stated by Kaja Kallas ahead of an informal summit of EU leaders in Nicosia.
According to her, if the talks focus solely on nuclear issues and are held without the involvement of профиль specialists, the final agreement could be weaker than the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
“If the problems in the region, missile programs, their support for proxy forces, as well as hybrid and cyber activities in Europe are not addressed, we will face a more dangerous Iran,” she added.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on several cities. On the same day, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli territory and targeted American military bases in the Persian Gulf.
On the night of April 8, 2026, Iran, the United States, and their allies agreed on a two-week ceasefire.
On April 11–12, talks between Iran and the United States were held in Islamabad with mediation by Pakistan. After lengthy discussions, the parties concluded the meeting without reaching an agreement.
As a means of pressure on Tehran, the United States announced a blockade of Iranian ports and transit through the Strait of Hormuz. In turn, Iran declared that the strait is now closed to ships heading to Persian Gulf countries. The situation in the region has consequently contributed to a global energy crisis.
