Japan highlights special importance of energy cooperation with Azerbaijan

Japan and Azerbaijan have steadily built trust based on people-to-people exchanges since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992, said Shimada Tomoaki, Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs.
According to the Japanese Foreign Ministry, Tomoaki attended the reception of the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan and delivered a speech on behalf of the Government of Japan.
"In his remarks, Parliamentary Vice-Minister Shimada congratulated on the Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 28 and stated that Japan and Azerbaijan have steadily built trust based on people-to-people exchanges since establishing diplomatic relations in 1992," reads the MFA statement.
Parliamentary Vice-Minister Shimada also stated that, as ensuring a stable energy supply has become an increasingly important priority, economic cooperation between the two countries –including in the energy sector– has also become even more essential. Based on the exchanges in areas such as sports and culture, he expressed his commitment to working toward the development of both nations.
