Italy has suspended the extension of its defense agreement with Israel

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has announced that the automatic extension of the defense agreement with Israel has been halted.

According to the ANSA news agency, the decision is linked to the escalation in the Middle East.

“Against the backdrop of the current situation, the government has decided to suspend the automatic extension of the agreement on defense cooperation with Israel,” Meloni said.

It is noted that the memorandum, which defines the framework for defense cooperation – including the exchange of military products and technological research for the armed forces – previously предусматривал продление every five years and entered into force on April 13, 2016.
