Iran’s parliament speaker Ghalibaf responded to Trump’s latest threats with nuance

The Speaker of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has responded to a threat made today by U.S. President Donald Trump, who warned that if Iran does not open the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, strikes would be carried out against the country’s power plants and bridges.
In a post on his X account, Ghalibaf indicated that such strikes could set countries in the region ablaze and accused the U.S. president of carrying out Israel’s orders.
Ghalibaf concluded his post by stating that the only solution is to respect “the rights of the Iranian people.”
Known for his typically harsh responses, it has drawn attention that Ghalibaf this time spoke about resolving the issue through legal means. Yesterday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied reports in the U.S. media claiming that Iran had refused Islamabad’s mediation.
It can be assumed that all of this reflects concern within Iran’s political circles about a potential escalation.
