Iran says it is ready to take part in the FIFA World Cup in the United States

Iran’s Minister of Sports and Youth Ahmad Donyamali has stated that the country’s national team may participate in World Cup matches in the United States.
According to Fox News, citing Iranian media, the tournament, which kicks off in June, will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. U.S. authorities have said that Iran will be allowed to take part in the competition.
Earlier, the Iranian team requested that its matches be held in Mexico, but FIFA rejected the request.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran, carrying out airstrikes on several cities. On the same day, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes.
In response, Iran carried out missile attacks on Israeli territory and targeted U.S. military bases in Gulf countries.
Iran, the United States, and their allies reached a two week ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8, 2026.
On April 11 to 12, talks between Iran and the United States were held in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as mediator. The lengthy discussions ended without an agreement.
