France and European Allies Prepare Joint Response to Potential US Move on Greenland

France has confirmed it is consulting closely with European partners on how to respond if the United States were to attempt a military takeover of Greenland, following a sharp rise in tensions linked to statements by Donald Trump. French foreign minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the issue would be discussed with his German and Polish counterparts at a scheduled meeting, stressing that any response should be coordinated at the European level.
The Daily Baku reports that, Denmark has warned that a US seizure of Greenland — which remains part of the Danish kingdom despite its autonomy — would effectively destroy NATO and the post-Second World War security framework. After comments from senior Trump allies suggested force could not be ruled out, European leaders publicly backed Denmark and Greenland, emphasizing that the territory belongs to its population.
Although the White House later said multiple options were being considered, including military action, Barrot stated that US secretary of state Marco Rubio had personally assured him that an invasion scenario had been excluded. Danish officials remain unconvinced by Washington’s rhetoric, holding emergency parliamentary talks and seeking urgent dialogue with US leadership.
Copenhagen has rejected Trump’s claims that Denmark is unable to defend Greenland or that Chinese and Russian activity there is out of control, pointing to tens of billions of kroner already invested in Arctic security and defense capabilities.
