Farid Shafiyev: Elections in Armenia are interesting for us

The parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia in June next year are of interest to Azerbaijan, said Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations, while presenting the report on the results of the year, The Daily Baku reports.

He also noted that a smear campaign is being conducted against Azerbaijan on various platforms: "We are actively working with international media organizations. However, we are facing some problems. Thus, some forces continue to smear campaigns against Azerbaijan, articles are published. Allegedly, our peace process is aimed only at the interests of Azerbaijan."

F. Shafiyev drew attention to the events that will take place next year and said that elections will be held in Armenia in June: "This event is interesting for us. We are waiting for some steps to be taken. The negotiations between us with the mediation of the United States are important."

The Chairman added that the Strategic Partnership Charter, Amendment 907 in relations with the US are very important issues for Azerbaijan: "We hope that a new stage will also open in relations with the European Union (EU). Sometimes we face certain problems. An example of this is the inclusion of anti-Azerbaijani views in the document signed between Armenia and the EU."
