Türkiye is putting forward proposals and initiatives to extend the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
This was stated by Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a meeting of the parliamentary faction of the Justice and Development Party.
According to him, the expected outcome was not achieved in the US–Iran negotiations held with Pakistan’s mediation, while tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have increased further.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran and carried out airstrikes on a number of cities. On the same day, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed as a result of the strikes. In response, Iran launched missile attacks on Israeli territory and targeted US military bases in Persian Gulf countries.
Iran, the United States, and their allies reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire on the night of April 8, 2026.
On April 11–12, talks between Iran and the United States were held in Islamabad with Pakistan acting as mediator.
Later, US President Donald Trump stated that on April 13 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (18:00 Baku time), the United States began blocking Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
