Eka Sepashvili: Statements voiced by the President of Azerbaijan are a worthy response to Brussels’ policy

Eka Sepashvili, Secretary for International Relations of Georgia’s People’s Power party, commented on the critical remarks directed at the European Union by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, stating that the policies of the EU and the Council of Europe in the South Caucasus have been unsuccessful.
Speaking to journalists, Sepashvili said that international pressure is being exerted on Georgia and Azerbaijan, as these countries do not align with the political and economic agenda shaped by European bureaucratic circles.
According to her, the statements voiced by the President of Azerbaijan represent a fitting response to the policy pursued by Brussels: “Because the European Union has long since lost its identity and no longer corresponds to the values upon which it was founded.”
Sepashvili also criticized the activities of the European Parliament, noting that the institution has lost credibility and, under the influence of global powers, adopts decisions that reflect the agenda of certain interest groups. In her view, these decisions are driven less by political correctness or the broader economic interests of states and more by narrow interests.
The Georgian politician emphasized that in recent years the European Parliament has adopted numerous resolutions against Azerbaijan and Georgia, which can be seen as a tool of pressure against the countries of the region.
“If we look at reality, the picture is clear – the policies of the EU and the Council of Europe in the South Caucasus have failed. Although these institutions speak about democratic values, in practice they restrict opportunities for dialogue,” Sepashvili stressed.
It should be recalled that on May 4, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking via video link at the 8th summit of the European Political Community Summit held in Yerevan, criticized the European Parliament. The head of state noted that instead of supporting the peace process, the European Parliament undermines it.
