Eight mobilisation service officials arrested over bribery in Azerbaijan

Eight officials from Azerbaijan’s State Service for Mobilisation and Conscription have been arrested as part of a corruption investigation into the country’s military call up system.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the arrests follow an operation targeting departments in Garadagh, Saatli, Jabrayil and Agdash. Investigators say the officials are suspected of taking bribes in exchange for helping individuals avoid military training, obtain deferments from service, and bypass restrictions on leaving the country.
Criminal charges have been brought against all eight suspects. A military court has ordered their pre trial detention and removal from their positions.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and further arrests are possible.
