Denmark more optimistic about resolving US interest in Greenland after latest talks

Denmark has expressed increased optimism that a solution can be found regarding US interest in Greenland following the latest round of talks between the two sides. Officials in Copenhagen say the discussions have contributed to a more constructive atmosphere and opened space for continued dialogue.
Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said that meetings held in Washington with US officials were constructive. Speaking after the talks, he noted that he is more hopeful now than he was a week earlier about the prospects for progress.
On the US side, Senator Marco Rubio told Congress that the discussions are being conducted in a low profile format. He said this approach is intended to avoid unnecessary media attention and allow the process to continue in a calmer and more focused manner.
While the Danish government has not disclosed details of the negotiations, Rasmussen said the talks are focused on how US security interests can be addressed without crossing Denmark’s red lines on territorial integrity and sovereignty. He emphasized that Denmark’s fundamental positions remain unchanged throughout the dialogue.
The issue of Greenland has attracted renewed international attention in recent years. The ongoing talks between Copenhagen and Washington indicate that both sides prefer to manage the matter through diplomacy rather than confrontation.
