Cuban president: Dialogue with the U.S. possible but complicated

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said that dialogue with the United States is possible, but remains complicated amid decades of tensions between the two countries.
The Cuban leader made the remarks in an interview with NBC.
According to the head of state, Havana is ready to engage with Washington on issues such as migration, combating drug trafficking, and security, but such dialogue must be based on respect and equality.
Miguel Díaz-Canel also expressed concern over recent U.S. rhetoric.
The Cuban president criticized U.S. sanctions, noting that the restrictions worsen the island’s economic difficulties, particularly by causing fuel shortages.
At the same time, he rejected claims that Cuba is on the verge of collapse, although he acknowledged the serious challenges facing the country’s population.
