Britain says more complex and developed relations with China are needed as Trump affects alliances

The British government has said that building more complex and developed relations with China is of vital importance, at a time when changes in global alliances are being influenced by former US President Donald Trump.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that strengthening relations with China is strategically essential. He is the first British leader to visit China in eight years. During the four day visit, Starmer aims to ease strained relations with the world’s second largest economy.
The tensions are largely linked to broader global disputes shaped by the United States, Britain’s closest ally. Starmer said China is a key player on the global stage and that developing a more sophisticated relationship is crucial.
Speaking at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing during talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Starmer said that engaging China through a more complex framework is necessary to address shared challenges.
Xi Jinping told the visiting prime minister that China is ready to build a stable and comprehensive strategic partnership with the United Kingdom and called on both sides to create new momentum in bilateral relations.
