Bloomberg: North Korea's missile program could breach US missile defenses

North Korea has approached a level of nuclear development that could seriously overwhelm the American missile defense system.
According to the agency, North Korea possesses approximately 50 nuclear warheads and can annually produce material for approximately 20 more, significantly accelerating the growth of its arsenal.
The American GMD missile defense system, deployed in Alaska and California, currently includes 44 interceptor missiles with the ability to expand their number by another 20. Intercepting a single target typically requires the launch of at least two missiles.
Against this backdrop, analysts believe that a massive launch of approximately two dozen North Korean intercontinental ballistic missiles could exhaust the American interceptor system's capabilities.
As Bloomberg notes, amid the US war in the Middle East and efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, increasing evidence suggests that Washington's strategy to contain Kim Jong-un's nuclear program has proven ineffective.
