Azerbaijani MP: Air strikes carried out against Nakhchivan are the actions of anti Azerbaijan elements represented within the Iranian authorities

Border security becomes particularly important at a time when a large scale war is unfolding in the neighborhood and conflicts inevitably affect countries across the region.
Member of Parliament Javanshir Feyziyev said this in a statement to The Daily Baku.
According to the MP, Iran targeting regional states effectively weakens its own defense capability. He noted that the air strikes on Nakhchivan could be the actions of anti Azerbaijan elements represented within the Iranian authorities.
“The illogical explanations from the Iranian authorities do not allow a full understanding of the incident. Therefore, it is more likely that the attack had a deliberate nature. Especially considering that the Iranian regime has regularly threatened Azerbaijan for many years, it is reasonable to assume that the events taking place today are not accidental,” the MP said.
Javanshir Feyziyev stressed that the Iranian authorities must provide a reasonable explanation for the attack on Nakhchivan as soon as possible and take steps in accordance with international law.
“Azerbaijan possesses all the necessary means to punish the aggressor and appropriate steps will be taken if such a necessity arises,” he added.
The MP also noted that the developments in the region should not simply be described as tensions.
“In fact, this is a real war involving the use of heavy weapons and ammunition. The South Caucasus, which is one of the key logistics hubs of the region, could be seriously affected if at least one of the countries in the region becomes involved in the ongoing military operations,” he said.
At the same time, Feyziyev emphasized that the likelihood of any South Caucasus country joining the conflict directly or indirectly remains low.
“There is no doubt that every war creates risks and challenges not only for the parties involved but for the entire region. In this regard, all three countries of the South Caucasus may be affected to some extent. However, it is not expected that this impact will be significant or long lasting,” he noted.
According to the MP, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces are ready for any possible scenario that may arise in the region.
Feyziyev added that every war eventually ends and this process usually concludes through diplomatic negotiations.
“This war will not be an exception. Sooner or later the parties will reach an agreement to stop military operations. Azerbaijan has always offered mediation services to the parties, but it appears that they are not yet ready for peace talks,” he said.
