Azerbaijan observes moment of silence for 20 January martyrs

At 12:00 local time, a nationwide minute of silence was observed across Azerbaijan in memory of the victims of the 20 January tragedy, The Daily Baku reports.

The entire country came to a standstill as traffic halted, sirens echoed from ships, cars, and trains, paying tribute to the victims of the 20 January tragedy.

In a nationwide gesture of mourning, the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan was lowered in cities, districts, village,s and settlements.

Commemorative events are being held across the country to mark the 36th anniversary of the January 20 tragedy, with remembrance ceremonies taking place in cities and districts nationwide.

From the early morning hours, people have been visiting Martyrs’ Alley to honour the memory of the fallen, laying fresh flowers on the graves of those who lost their lives.
