Azerbaijan moves beyond the regional framework and becomes a global center of power
President Ilham Aliyev’s interview with local television channels on January 5 clearly demonstrates that Azerbaijan is no longer merely a regional actor, but has transformed into an important center of power that directly influences global processes.
This was stated by political analyst Tural Ismayilov in his comments to The Daily Baku.
According to him, the ideas voiced by the head of state in the interview are a clear manifestation of Baku’s sovereign will and its ability to shape the new geopolitical realities of the post-conflict period: “President Ilham Aliyev’s address is a strategic roadmap declaring that Azerbaijan has moved beyond the regional scale and has become a significant center of power directly influencing global processes. This interview clearly demonstrates Baku’s capacity to shape a new geopolitical architecture in the post-conflict era.”
Tural Ismayilov emphasized that the most fundamental and unshakable pillar of this new strategic architecture is the Azerbaijan–Türkiye alliance: “The Azerbaijan–Türkiye alliance, which entered a new phase with the Shusha Declaration, is no longer just a symbol of brotherhood between two states. This tandem has become the main axis of security, stability, and economic progress across the entire Eurasian region. The military and security coordination within the Turkic world highlighted by the President in the interview serves to form a broad security shield built upon this unbreakable tandem.”
According to the expert, the military-political unity between Baku and Ankara acts as a strategic shield for the economic and logistical projects of the Organization of Turkic States: “Global projects of major importance, especially the Middle Corridor, are protected from external threats thanks to the Azerbaijan–Türkiye military-political unity. This approach sends a clear message to the international audience: the brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan leaves no room for a power vacuum in the region, neutralizes external interference, and demonstrates the emergence of a new center of power in global politics.”
Touching upon the issue of the Zangezur corridor, the political analyst noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s determination on this matter once again confirms Azerbaijan’s indispensable position in the global logistics chain: “The Zangezur corridor is not merely a regional passage; it is an uninterrupted economic artery between East and West and the backbone of global trade routes. The President’s position on this issue shows that Azerbaijan is a dominant power that designs the future of the region, offers inclusive cooperation models, and ensures the acceptance of its strategic terms at the international level.”
Tural Ismayilov also stressed that Azerbaijan’s role as a “global connector” is steadily strengthening: “Azerbaijan is becoming a reliable and indispensable partner for both East and West. This status further consolidates our country’s role in global logistics and energy security.”
The expert also highlighted the special importance of the messages voiced regarding US–Azerbaijan relations: “The President’s messages concerning the United States show that bilateral relations will now be developed on the basis of equal partnership, mutual interests, and respect for sovereignty. This is a clear signal addressed to Washington and other global capitals: Azerbaijan is an independent power that does not sacrifice its national interests to any geopolitical pressure.”
In conclusion, Tural Ismayilov noted that the strategic course defined by President Ilham Aliyev will shape Azerbaijan’s geopolitical profile for decades to come:
“This policy allows Azerbaijan to maintain balanced relations with regional actors while developing ties with the West in a more pragmatic and security-oriented framework. This new model of power, based on military strength, economic attractiveness, and an unbreakable alliance with Türkiye, transforms Azerbaijan into one of the key centers of will in the new geopolitical order of Eurasia. In the coming years, Baku’s weight in global decision-making processes will continue to grow.”
