Azerbaijan increases wheat imports in first quarter of 2026

Azerbaijan imported 371,801 tonnes of wheat in January–March 2026, according to official data.
The State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan said the value of these imports amounted to 82.765 million US dollars.
Compared with the same period last year, wheat import volumes rose by 83,806 tonnes, or 29%, while their value increased by 20.52 million dollars, or 33%.
Spending on wheat imports accounted for 2% of Azerbaijan’s total import expenditure during the reporting period.
Overall, the country conducted foreign trade operations worth 9.407 billion dollars in the first quarter, marking a decline of 21.9% compared with a year earlier.
Of the total trade turnover, 5.402 billion dollars came from exports and 4.005 billion dollars from imports. Over the past year, exports fell by 15.4%, while imports declined by 29.3%.
As a result, Azerbaijan recorded a positive trade balance of 1.398 billion dollars, an increase of 93.4% year on year.
