At least 20 killed as bus plunges into gorge in northern India

At least 20 people have been killed and 36 others injured after a passenger bus veered off the road and fell into a gorge in northern India, police say.

Authorities told journalists that the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Preliminary reports suggest the accident may have been caused by difficult road conditions or a possible mechanical failure of the vehicle.

Rescue operations are ongoing at the scene, with emergency teams working to reach victims.

Those injured have been taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
