Armenia prepares to withdraw Russian border guards from Akhuryk checkpoint on Türkiye border

The Armenian authorities plan to withdraw Russian border guards from the Akhuryk outpost checkpoint, located on the border with Türkiye, in the near future, News of Armenia reported, citing sources in diplomatic circles, APA reports.
According to the source, a decision on the handover of the direct checkpoint at the Akhuryk outpost has already been made, and a flagpole has even been installed. At the same time,
Russian border guards will remain at the outpost itself.
Currently, the condition of the railway line in the direction of Türkiye is being assessed.
According to the publication, the Turkish side has already begun construction work in the area of the Margara checkpoint. Thus, the start of construction on the Turkish side and the planned commissioning of Akhuryk indicate that there is a serious intention to open the border in the near future.
