Agreement reached with Georgia on the transit of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia

Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, stated at a press conference held on December 26, 2025, that an agreement had been reached with Georgia on the transit of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia. Subsequently, Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, also confirmed that an agreement had been reached on this issue and emphasized that the transit costs are competitive.
It should be recalled that Georgia had previously demanded unrealistically high tariffs for the transit of Azerbaijani oil products to Armenia, and later allowed the first train to pass through its territory to Armenia on an exceptional basis without charging any fees. After information about Georgia’s obstacles became known, representatives of the Armenian government raised the option of transporting Azerbaijani oil products from Azerbaijan’s Gazakh district directly to Armenia by fuel trucks. It appears that the Georgian side took into account that if normal transit prices were not offered, the process of restoring direct transportation links between Azerbaijan and Armenia could accelerate.
