Azerbaijan, Romania reaffirm strategic partnership in Baku talks

Azerbaijan and Romania have pledged to deepen their strategic partnership and expand cooperation across multiple sectors during talks in Baku, Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, said in a post on X.

Hajiyev noted that he held a "productive meeting" with Romanian counterpart Marius Lazurca, who is visiting the country.

The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen bilateral ties, with Hajiyev noting Romania's role as the European Union member state geographically closest to the South Caucasus.

"We reaffirmed the strategic partnership and traditional friendship between Azerbaijan and Romania," Hajiyev wrote on social media platform X. "We exchanged views on prospects for advancing collaboration in the political, economic, energy, defense, cultural, humanitarian, and other fields. We agreed to continue our active political and security dialogue."

The meeting comes as Azerbaijan seeks to broaden its cooperation with EU member states, particularly in energy and regional security, while Romania positions itself as a key partner in the South Caucasus.
